International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day is a great pride of Bangladesh. 21 February is observed all over the world as International Mother Language Day. This is a day of great pride for the people of Bangladesh. The Pakistani rulers wanted to make Urdu the state language of Pakistan ignoring Bangla. The brave and patriotic people of the East Pakistan protested against this. ‘The Mother Language Sangram Parishad’ started movement for the due honour of Bangla. On 21 February 1952, police opened fire on the procession of students. Salam, Jabbar, Barkat, Rafiq and many other persons were killed. Since her liberation in 1971, 21 February was being observed as the ‘National Mourning Day’. On November 17, 1999 UNESCO recognized our unique sacrifice for mother language and declared 21 February the International Language Day. From then onwards, this day is being observed in all the member countries of UNO. Really International Language Day is a great pride for the people of Bangladesh.
