Muhammad Yunus-A Great Child of Bangladesh
Muhammad Yunus one of the greatest child of Bangladesh. Muhammad Yunus born in 1940 in Chittagong, the business centre of Eastern Bangladesh. He was the third of 14 children. Educated in Chittagong, he was awarded a full bright scholarship and he received hi P.H.D from Vanderbilt University, in U.S.A. In 1972 he become the head of the Economics department at Chittagong University. He is the founder and Managing Director of the Grameen Bank.
In 1997, Professor Yunus organized the world’s first Micro Credit Summit in Washington D.C. Professor Yunus is an economist. He planned to alleviate poverty from the world. He introduced micro-credit system among a limited number of poor people and his plan worked. Then he set up a bank, Grameen Bank. Through this bank he worked for the poor and gave financial support to make them self-employed. His programmes succeeded and thousands of poor, powerless people could escape from poverty. They trusted Yunus as a helping hand and he was trusted to be a famous name. His micro-credit brought wealth to the underprivileged of many nations. He was awarded the President, Magcess, UNESCO and Novel award. His best works are Experiences and Reflections “92, Hunger, Poverty and the World Bank ’93 and credit it a Human Right ’94.
Begum Sufia Kamal-A Great Child of Bangladesh
Begum Sufia Kamal, the best poetess, was born at Shayestabad in Barisal on 20th June in 1911. When she was born, the women folk were kept within four walls. They were not allowed to go outside. But Sufia Kamal educated herself through thick and thin without going to any school. It was she who bought the light of education for the captive women folk. She composed stories, poems, verses and what not. Her remarkable works are Etal-Betol, Nao Kishorer Darvarey. She died in 1999.
Shamsur Rahman-A Great Child of Bangladesh
Shamsur Rahman is the national poet of Bangladesh. His enriches Bengali language and culture by writing modern poems. He was awarded “Bangla Academy Reward” in 1969 and “Ekushey Padak” in 1977 respectively for composing poems. Zainul Abedin-A Great Child of Bangladesh
Zainul Abedin, the most famous artist in Bangladesh, was born in Kishoreganj in 1914. He was educated in Art from Calcutta Art College and won a gold medal in this regard for his outstanding drawing and painting. He depicted a true picture on Famine in 1974 and earned a good name and fame. The Govt. of Bangladesh honoured him as National Professor of Art. He died in Dhaka in 1976.
